• Profile information (location, bio, photos)
• For caregivers: experience, availability, rates, background check information
• For families: information about children (names, ages, special needs)
• Messages sent through the Platform
• Payment information (processed securely by Stripe)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve our services
• Connect families with caregivers in their area
• Process background checks through Checkr
• Process payments and manage subscriptions
• Send you important updates about your account
• Respond to your inquiries and support requests
• Detect and prevent fraud or abuse

3. Information Sharing

We share your information only in these specific situations:

• Other users: Your caregiver or family profile is visible to subscribed members as part of the matching service. Caregivers see family names and child ages; families see caregiver names, photos, bios, and availability.
• Checkr (background checks): When caregivers initiate a background check, they submit their personal information (SSN, date of birth, address history) directly to Checkr. Village Acres never sees or stores this sensitive data - we only receive a pass/fail result. Checkr processes this data under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
• Stripe (billing): Family subscription payments are processed by Stripe. We pass your email address to Stripe to create a customer record; your full card details are handled entirely by Stripe and are never stored byVillage Acres.
• Resend (email): We use Resend to send account and transactional emails (e.g., magic links, notifications). Your email address is shared with Resend for this purpose only.
• Legal requirements: When required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our community.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Ever.

4. Background Check Information

For caregivers, background check information is processed by Checkr in accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Background check results are:

• Used only for the purpose of verifying caregiver eligibility
• Not shared in detail with families (only approval status is shown)
• Subject to Checkr's privacy policy

5. Children's Information

Parents may provide information about their children as part of their family profile. This information is:

• Only visible to verified caregivers with active profiles
• Used solely for the purpose of matching with appropriate caregivers
• Protected with the same security measures as all user data

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal information
• Correct inaccurate information
• Delete your account and associated data
• Export your data in a portable format
• Opt out of marketing communications

8. Cookies and Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics to understand how users interact with our Platform. This helps us improve our services. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

9. Account Cancellation and Data Deletion

If you cancel your family subscription, your access ends at the end of the current billing period. Your profile and account data are retained unless you explicitly request deletion.

To delete your account and all associated data, email privacy@village-acres.com. We will remove your data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., billing records). Note that Checkr and Stripe retain data subject to their own retention policies.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
